Where to organize a yoga retreat in Puerto Vallarta

Amaca Beach Retreat·August 28, 2026·5 min read

Puerto Vallarta works as the gateway. It has an international airport, direct connections with dozens of cities, and a well-established wellness community. But the city and the retreat venue are not the same thing, and that is where many facilitators hesitate.

Puerto Vallarta gateway, Quimixto retreat venue

Puerto Vallarta works as the gateway, but the city and the retreat venue are not the same thing.

In the city

The Romantic Zone and Versalles concentrate yoga studios, healthy cafes, and boutique lodging. The advantage is that everything is at hand and arrival is simple. The disadvantage is that you remain inside a city, with its noise, traffic, and distractions. A participant who steps out for a walk ends up on an avenue, not in nature.

In the bay, away from the asphalt

South of the city, the coast no longer has a road. The beaches of Las Ánimas, Quimixto, and Yelapa are only reached by water. That detail completely changes the retreat experience. The group arrives by boat, leaves notifications behind, and enters a place where the only agenda is the one you set.

Amaca Beach Retreat is in Quimixto precisely for this reason. The city remains close for arrival and departure logistics, yet far enough for the retreat to feel like a retreat.

What to evaluate before booking

Do you want your group to be in Puerto Vallarta, or to be away from the world with Puerto Vallarta nearby?

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to hold the retreat in downtown Puerto Vallarta?

The city simplifies arrival, but keeps the group surrounded by noise and distractions. For a retreat seeking real disconnection, an isolated beach in the same bay usually works better.

Is Quimixto far from Puerto Vallarta airport?

No. You reach Boca de Tomatlán by land, about 40 to 50 minutes from the airport, followed by a short boat crossing to Quimixto.
